And that worked out just great for them.
But the Hawks took a different approach...
it's called Hockey.
1st period. What a period!
Hawks scored first with a goal from Kopecky. Confusion on this one. It was Seabs goal then it was Eagers but in the end Kopecky got the credit. All the work was done by Seabs though.
The lead didn't last long, Blues tied it up 1-1.
Kopecky wanted a goal that he worked for and he got just that. Hawks took the lead again. Fraser had two assists at this point.
Kaner got an elbow to the face! The refs choose to ignore it but Eager didn't. He got into a fight with a Blues and landed some nice hits.
Another dirty hit came from a Blues player in the first. Sharpy with his head down gets taken off his feet. At this point the refs aren't even in the game. Barker not happy about the hit, tried to fight but the Blues player backed away. Then guess what? Barker gets taken out of the game for that. It also lead to 7 minutes in penalties.
The Blues feeding off of their dirty play score again.
Sopel was a real stand out in the game. Some nice blocked shots in the first. I'm going to try and be the better person and not even mention how he looks. I can't after he seemed so sweet in the post game interview.
End of the first tied 2-2. Lot of shady hits by the Blues. The refs? What refs?
2nd period.
Mark Buehrle was at the game tonight. He better have been cheering for the Hawks.
What happened next was a very rare sighting...
Toews fight!
Blues player took his gloves off and Toews, being the Captain that he is, doesn't back down. He may not be the best fighter but he stayed in it.
What Fraser had to say on Toews fight: "I don't think he has to do it every game now, but mix one in once in a while, looks good and the guys get fired up."
Soupy not wanting to get into the fighting action decided to get into the scoring action. Now 3-2 Hawks.
Next the Hawks showed the Blues a taste of their own medicine. Surprising Soupy uses his body and takes down Oshie. He went limping back to the bench. I believe thats called karma. Keith took a Blues down while taking a penalty.
Kopecky, working on that hat trick, shot the puck and it bounced off the goal. So close.
Versteeg lengthened the Hawks lead to 4-2.
Thats the end of the second. So far the Hawks have out shot the Blues 26-14.
3rd period.
Sharpy uses domination as revenge with 2 goals in a row. Putting the Hawks on top 6-2.
Another scuffle started in between those goals. Fraser got into a fight. The Blues can't score and can't play hockey all that well so they kept on hitting people.
Eager tried going for a hat trick of fights with another fight.
The Blues got their pity goal 6-3. After the replay you have to have pity for the Blues player. He took the puck off the face and then it went into the net. Not pretty, lots of blood.
And thats game! Hawks won 6-3!
