Blackhawks Night at the Cell

To quote Miley Cyrus, it was the "best of both worlds" Friday night at U.S. Cellular Field. Coach Q came out to the Southside to throw out the first pitch before the White Sox vs Yankees game. He sported a Blackhawks baseball jersey with Coach on the back and Q as the number. He also brought along a friend, Stanley. They weren't alone either. All four major trophies made an appearance last night: Stanley Cup, World Series Trophy, Super Bowl Trophy, and Larry O'Brien Trophy. All trophies have been won over the last 25 years in Chicago. That's quite the accomplishment, especially since the Bulls won six. I'm thinking their roommate at the United Center should follow in their footsteps.

The Blackhawks must of brought some luck to the Sox, they ended up beating the Yankees 9-4. Or the Yankees were just intimidated by all the winners on the field before hand.

As far as I know no Blackhawks players were on hand, which is a little disappointing considering half of the team would show up at past Blackhawks Nights. However, the whole night was made perfect by Hawk and Stone, who traded in their Tommy Bahama for full hockey gear. The gloves, the helmet, and the jersey. They went all the way, it was awesome.

Blackhawks TV caught everything on camera:

One of the most special moments of the night came when Jim Cornelison sang the national anthem. Blackhawks style, of course. It was quite the scene with his hand to the flag as the trophies stood in front of him and the crowd cheered in the background. Plus, it was at the Cell.

Ozzie: "To me, I feel good about the Blackhawks because that's the last one. To bring the trophies of the Bulls, they're going to need a truck. I think it's a great thing to see, a great thing to have."

Konerko: “The anthem was great; that was pretty cool. And it’s always a little different atmosphere when the Yankees are in town. The guys responded well.”
Ozzie: “I’ve been wearing this uniform for a long time and I never remember, even in the World Series, the playoffs, the last game with the Minnesota Twins, that people got so pumped up over the National Anthem. That was special. Seeing the people get that into the game, that was outstanding. If you don’t get motivated by that, you can’t get ready for any game. It was great.”
Pierzynski: “I think the trophies were probably the coolest thing I’ve seen in a long time to have all four of them here. To see them all together was cool. It was a fun game, great, and a big excited crowd.”

Wondering why the Cubs weren't represented? Well, it was a night for winners.

  1. Even though I am a Cubs fan (depressing, I know) I am very proud of ALL the sports teams in Chicago for bringing all those trophies home within 25 years. I am able to say with ease that Chicago is the best sports city in the world.

And I agree with you, the Blackhawks should follow in the footsteps of the Bulls and do what the teams of the United Center do: create dynasties.
