Student Discount Night!

It's Student Discount Night at the United Center for Hawks vs Pens tonight. Any remaining seats will only be $25 for those who come with a valid student ID. Make sure to get to the ticket box early for the best seats. I highly recommend doing this. The last two times I did this I sat 10th row center ice and 6th rows behind the goal. It's also very nice of the Blackhawks. I knew there was a reason I went to college.

A Win With Losses:

I feel it's best to start with the shitty news first and end on a good note. Ben Smith was hit hard in the head in the third period. He eventually had to leave the game and his now day-to-day. The injuries don't stop there. Stalberg also left the game and is out for three weeks, after he hurt his leg.

Coach Q on Smith: "Ben's OK, I guess OK. I don't want to put a timeline on him. ... It's exactly the hit that they're trying to get out of the game. That's the blow to the head, first part of the contact is the head." (source)

Coach Q on Stalberg: "It looked like it might have been a collision, but looked like it could've been more than a collision. We'll leave it at that." (source)

The Hawks did end up beating the Red Wings. Even though it's preseason it's always a little sweeter winning against them. Kane and Hossa both scored in their preseason debuts. We also got our first god/Hossa reference from his goal in the third. SEEEAAABBBRROOOKK scored a goal too. Unfortunately, I missed it. The Hawks won 4-3 with Kane as the number one star. He gave us some words of wisdom in his stars of the game interview: "Detroit whatever."

Why is this post so crappy? It's preseason.
My excuse for everything.

New Open Practice Dates:

I have said it before and I'll say it again open practice is free and fun. What more could you want?

-Tuesday, September 27th
-Sunday, October 13th
-Monday, October 24th
-Thursday, October 27th

Practice starts at 11 a.m. at Johnny's IceHouse West.

Around the UC:

-According to the chicago media, Saad can really play with the "big boys"

-Coach Q: "We might try that. He's been playing center throughout scrimmages and practices now and we'll see."

-Coach Q: ‘‘It’s something we’re going to at least take a look at. He was not complaining."

-Richards: “It’s a challenging camp, but every year I’ve been there I’ve felt a little more comfortable on the ice. You realize you deserve to be there and can compete with them.”

-"The Blackhawks' Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews and Viktor Stalberg hung out atParis Club's upstairs lounge, Studio Paris, following Saturday's pre-season win over theWashington Capitals."

-Kane: "Stan just came up to me and asked me over the summer. I said I'd be willing to try it if they wanted to. He didn't tell me why. He just said it was something they wanted to try."

-Emery: "I feel better. My hands are feeling better and reading plays is getting there. It would be nice to see it translate in the games here. I'm looking forward to playing again."

-More on Saad:

-David Toews: “It was awesome. Obviously, it was a dream come true starting out on his wing. It was a little nerve wracking, but I tried to take it as any other game although I wanted to enjoy it."

-Emery on Crawford: “I was kind of joking with him that it seems unfair how easy he makes it look because I know it’s not. It’s great watching a guy who’s got things figured out as well as he does.”

Someone should hire me with those fantastic photoshop skills.

The Blackhawks have played three preseason games since their preseason opener in Saskatoon. They fell to the Pens 4-1 on Thursday, then won 3-2 vs the Capitals on Friday. Last night, they lost in a shootout to the Red Wings. I wasn't able to watch any of them, so that's why have this is the end of the update.

A Very Brief Look at the Hawks' Night in Saskatoon:

Hockey is back! The Blackhawks had their first preseason game tonight vs the Oilers. Most of us were glued to our computer screens, just squealing at the sight of hockey. Have I mentioned its been a long summer? The Blackhawks very nicely streamed the game on their website for us fans. Judging from the video stream, the Hawks were playing either in the late 80s or early 90s. And how about that 50/50? Unfortunately, the Hawks did not win the 50/50 nor did they win the game. They fell to the Oilers 4-2 with goals from Rostislav Olesz and Jamal Mayers. Here's a look at what the roster looked like for tonight's game: click here. Emery started in the net for the Hawks and let in two goals. Salak also saw time in the goal in the 2nd period and gave up the game winner. Stalberg had a lot of chances and played well on a line with Toews. Toews and Toews had the opportunity to play together. Who doesn't love a little brother action? It's always fun. You know what would be fun? Having Keith Seabrook play with Keith and Seabrook on the same team with Toews and Toews. Anyway, the Hawks will play the Pens in the second preseason game on Thursday.

Get excited! Hockey is back! Now let's here it for the first "LETS GO HAWKS" of the season.

Blackhawks Day at the Cell

It was Blackhawks Day at the Cell yesterday. Sharp, Seabrook, and Kane were just some of the players who came out for the game. Carcillo made his debut by throwing out the first pitch. Each player also wore a White Sox jersey: Sharp (Buehrle), Seabrook (Pierzynski), Kane (Beckham), Carcillo (Quentin), and Emery (Konerko). Before the game, they had a parade of Blackhawks fans go around the field. They also played a montage of Carcillo being an ass on the ice, but he's our ass now. I tried to take some photos (keyword tried). So here are some of my craptastic photos:

RIP Lokomotiv Yaroslavl Hockey Team

The Blackhawks' statement on the plane crash that killed at least 43, including former Blackhawks players Igor Korolev and Alexander Karpovtsev:

“We stand together with the entire KHL, NHL and hockey world in mourning today’s tragic news concerning the Lokomotiv Yaroslavl hockey team. The tragedy affects the Chicago Blackhawks family directly as we mourn the losses of Alexander Karpovtsev and Igor Korolev, two players who spent time with our organization and that our fans know well. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of the Lokomotiv Yaroslavl organization.” (source)

Around the UC: Blackhawks at Wrigley

(See more photos from their day at Wrigley here)

It was Blackhawks day at Wrigley Field yesterday. Kane showed off his baseball skills by throwing out the first pitch. He had some help singing the seventh inning stretch from Stalberg, Bolland, Hammer, and Mayers. This would be the moment where I would say some insult about the Cubs, but since both Chicago baseball teams are playing like shit, I find it unnecessary. However, you can see the boys in black and white this Saturday at the Cell for another Blackhawks night. I think black and white is a little more flattering on them then Cubbie blue, but that's just me. It's also nice seeing the boys back in town. We have the cooler weather and the Starbucks fall collection now we just need some hockey. Do I even have to ask? Is it October yet?

(You can check out more new videos from Blackhawks TV here, including Sharp throwing out the first pitch, Coach Q singing the seventh inning stretch, and the painting of the logo)
